Come and enjoy the freedom and hospitality of Khoisan Safaris ; whether you make it a halfway stop between Johannesburg and Cape Town, or between the Kalahari and the coast, it is just the place to recharge either overnight or for a couple of days or more before the onslaught of work and city life again. Discover this secret retreat, an oasis in the endless landscape of the Karoo.
A half hour drive from our main farmhouse, through the gates and up into the koppies, will bring you down into a secluded valley where the bush camp is situated, at a waterhole used by the game and Nguni cattle. The huge umbrella thorn tree shades part of the rondavel and the large walk-in tent, both which face the waterhole and look out onto the lapa and separate kitchen enclosure. The camp is encircled by a natural fence of hook thorn.
The area was once a sacred sanctuary for the Bushmen and is filled with remnants of their time there, from ancient and mysterious rock engravings, to buried ostrich egg caches, to the tools that they once used. It is easy to explore by foot or on horseback, either on the hiking trails or over the veld. Springbok, Black wildebeest, Red hartebeest, gemsbok, kudu, steenbok, duiker, Mountain reedbuck and countless other small game like meerkat and genet roam the hills and valleys, and by sitting quietly under a witgat tree with a book, easel or writing, one is quite likely to sight them.
Leave the sound system at home because when you look up at the stars at night you will surely hear the hum of the universe. Other things to do in the area include visits to the Bushman rock engravings, hiking trails, horse riding, game viewing, fossil formations, star-gazing, and swimming in the dam.
★★★★★ It was the most amazing experience! My hart stayed in the Karoo! Love the people! Abram and Barend were excellent hostages! We had outrides with the horses were most people won't dare to go with any vehicles! Peace and quiet, if you need to REALLY recharge your battery, visit Khoisan and it's people! The horses really know their environment and you can trust them to get the best routes in tough... Read more

★★★★★ If I was rating the accommodation at Omdraaisvlei separately, it would receive a minus 10! The overall impression we got was of severe neglect. If I was rating the hospitality of Alex, it would receive a 10! We had vehicle problems, and he was very supportive in collecting us from Prieska, and driving us to the farm. I think he should state on his website that this accommodation is suitable for... Read more

★★★★★ We stayed in the lovely little cottage on the main farm and had a great time. Alex's rock art tour & game drive are well worth it as he is very knowledgeable about the area and its history. This really adds to the whole experience - although the majestic landscape in itself is awesome. We were lucky to see rain and some thunderstorms which unleashed that unforgettable "Karoo smell". Good luck to... Read more
